Fort Worth Haunted House Cutting Edge salutes science fiction, action and horror superstar Sigourney Weaver, born on this date in history – October 8!
When it comes to thrilling, action-packed sci-fi horror films, there’s no more iconic, down-to-earth, alien-butt-kicking, fearless and fearsome actress than Sigourney Weaver. As the tough and gritty Ellen Ripley in the four mega-grossing Alien films, she’s one of the few female heroines that doesn’t trip and sprain her ankle while trying to run away from the monsters.
She also doesn’t back down when she plays stubborn gorilla-defending scientist Dian Fossey in Gorillas in the Mist, which won her a Golden Globe for best actress.
Sigourney shows her lighter side as Ghostbuster client and Bill Murray love interest Dana Barrett in the two super-hit Ghostbusters movies, even taking a comedic turn as a monster herself when her character is possessed by a demonic spirit.
Some things you might not know about the notorious screen legend – she’s no withering violet in real life; she tops out at just a half an inch shy of six feet! As the daughter of an English actress and the president of NBC, she naturally attended college at Stanford University and Yale Drama School. She’s a Libra, and like many Hollywood actresses, she elected to use a screen name. Born Susan Alexandra Weaver, she adopted the name Sigourney after seeing it in F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel, The Great Gatsby.
Unlike many other actresses, however, she adopted her screen name at the ripe old age of 14.
Here at Cutting Edge Haunted House in Fort Worth, we like to think Sigourney would have a real blast, going toe-to-toe with our chainsaw-wielding zombies, facing down our drum line, striding through the darkness with just a chem stick and pure determination, boldly going where no one – oh sorry, wrong movie…
If you’re ever in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, Ms. Weaver, we hope you’ll stop on by the Cutting Edge and hang with our own cast of sci-fi super stars. We’ve got a whole crew of zombies, monsters and demonic spirits that are just dying to have you for dinner!
